Establishment of HAIRDESC

At the 8th HPCI Consortium Symposium, held in Tokyo on October 23, the establishment of a new organization to support HPC and AI research and development in Japan—the Next-Generation HPC-AI Research and Development Support Center (HAIRDESC)—was officially announced.

The Center is being established following its selection under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) public program, the Next-Generation HPC-AI Development Support Center Formation Program.
The Research Organization for Information Science and Technology (RIST) serves as the representative institution, with the University of Tsukuba, the University of Tokyo, and Institute of Science Tokyo participating as core institutions.

In collaboration with GPU and CPU development vendors and related partners, HAIRDESC will promote technical support and necessary research and development for both new and existing application developers.
In parallel, the Center will address GPU readiness and human resource development with a view toward the next flagship supercomputing system.
